Weston can be dated back to the 10th century, and was originally a small fishing community. Weston didn’t become part of Southampton until 1920, in which it became more urbanised and residential. Woolston was also recognised as part of Southampton in the 1920’s, and has a strong maritime history. The area really took shape as new industries, roads and infrastructure was seen in the Victorian period. A key bit of history is when the Itchen bridge was developed in the 1970’s linking Woolston to the city centre, opening up the easy commute!
